Maddens Lawyers principal Kathryn Emeny, who is leading the class action, said there had been a recent influx of new registrations after the Supreme Court of Victoria ordered that thousands of former patients of the Lanzer Clinic be advised of the class action.
“The Court ordered that a patient list be provided to a third-party mailing house because the patient details are confidential,” Ms Emeny said.
“As part of that process, Dr Lanzer had to look at his patient records to ascertain the people who potentially do have a claim as part of the class action, and that’s approximately 4,500.”
Ms Emeny said that letters went out to some former patients last week.
“We are receiving dozens of new registrations each day from people who, perhaps until receipt of that notice, were not aware of the class action.”
Many former patients allege their cosmetic surgeries by Dr Lanzer and the other defendants left them with injuries and ongoing pain.
The date for a 10-week trial has been set in the Supreme Court of Victoria for 1 June 2026.
Meanwhile, Dr Lanzer is living in Israel and claims he has serious health and housing issues.
Ms Emeny said they would continue to move the case forward, despite Dr Lanzer’s recent claims.
“We understand Dr Lanzer is living in Israel and we’ve been informed that he has some health concerns and some concerns with his living arrangements, given the ongoing conflict in the area.”
“We are keen to get to the bottom of Dr Lanzer’s personal situation and keep the case moving forward, as many of his clients have been living with considerable injuries for years.”
“There are people living with injuries that impact their day-to-day life in terms of ongoing pain and scarring, restrictions in movement, impact on organ function, nerve damage and psychological impacts from the way in which the surgeries were conducted,” she said.
“We are committed to holding these doctors to account.”
The class action is pursuing claims against seven defendants – the Lanzer Clinic (Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery Services (DCSS)) , Dr Daniel Lanzer, Dr Daniel Aronov, the estate of Dr Daniel Darbyshire, Dr Ryan Wells, and Dr Alieza Fallahi. Psychologist Candice Wainstein, who is the wife of Dr Aronov, is also a defendant.
